





DENIM DAZE
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A Handmade Papermaking class focused on processing Denim into Handmade Paper. We will start by processing 100% Denim fiber which is made from Cotton & Indigo. We will cut the fiber down into small pieces, soak the denim in hot water, then load our Hollander Beater and beat the Denim fiber to a pulp, we will then practice sheet formation and we will conclude our studio time by pressing the water out via hydraulic press and we will load our Denim sheets of Handmade Paper into our dry box system. Participants will gain hands on Papermaking experience, while learning, processing and examining the environmental and historical contexts of Denim, Cotton and Indigo.
SCHEDULE:
Class meets on Saturday November 8th and Sunday November 9th from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, breaking for Lunch from 1:30PM to 2:30PM.
MATERIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Bring your own boots & clothes you're comfortable getting wet. Fiber, Materials & Equipment Provided.
***Participants are encouraged to bring Denim fiber to be processed, with the caveat that it must be 100% Denim, which is 100% Cotton; meaning NO Spandex, NO Synthetics***
