Papermaking Studio with Andrea Peterson
Friday, June 12 – Saturday, June 20
9:30am – 4:00pm
Pulp can be utilized to create unique works of art. As a medium it is an amazing malleable material. Pulp can be transformed locking elements into a state of timelessness. It can allude to skin, metal, rock or something totally different. The fibers we will use are cotton, abaca, kozo, wheat straw and hay – the last two being agriculture by-products from a regenerative farm. We will process the raw fibers by cooking to remove impurities. We will be utilizing Eastern and Western traditional techniques and then push the unique characteristics of each fiber individually and how it can work for you as an art medium. We will cover inclusion, deckle boxes, pigmentation of all pulps, double couching, shaped sheets, etc. This intensive class will emphasize a sustainable approach in the studio and how it can be addressed in one’s own. This course is for the artist to create a body of work through experimentation from being inspired by the medium in combination with your own personal focus. All skill levels, beginners to advanced.
MATERIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Bring your own boots & clothes you're comfortable getting wet. Aprons, Fiber, Materials & Equipment Provided.
