Rye Straw is a Natural Golden-Tan color, with a smooth slightly granola-like feel.
Process: We soak our Rye Straw for 24 hours. We cook the fiber with Soda Ash, we clean it. We beat the Rye Straw using a Reina Hollander beater. Our sheets are then pulled individually by hand, couched, pressed in a hydraulic press and restraint dried. Each of our sheets of paper have deckle edges and are internally sized.
Fiber: Rye Straw is a grass fiber that comes from the left over stalk of the Rye plant after harvest. Rye Straw is usually grown and dried to serve as agricultural bedding, and animal feed. Rye Straw sourced from Hook Pottery Paper & Turkey Foot Farm in LaPorte Indiana.
