Sisal (16in x 20in)

$10.00

Sisal is a Creamy-Tan color, sturdy, hearty and great for printmaking.

Process: We cut our Sisal down into 1 inch pieces, soak for 24 hours, cook with Soda Ash, clean, and beat in a Reina Hollander Beater. Sisal sheets are pulled individually by hand using a Mould & Deckle, then couched, pressed in a hydraulic press and finally restraint dried. Each of our sheets of paper have deckle edges and are internally sized.

Fiber: Sisal refers to the twine (typically used in agriculture) that is wrapped around bales of Hay. Sisal comes from the Agave Sisalana plant, which is native to southern Mexico. Grown in tropical and subtropical climates, the majority of the Sisal that is imported into the U.S. comes from Brazil, Kenya and Tanzania. Our Sisal comes from Hook Pottery Paper & Turkey Foot Farm in LaPorte Indiana.
